It holds itself out as a disinterested arbiter of who’s nice and who’s naughty. But the Better Business Bureau is under fire for an alleged “pay-for-play” scheme in which businesses that agree to pay “dues” to the organization get higher grades than businesses that don’t. In Los Angeles, ABC News reports a fictitious business got an “A+” rating after it coughed up the fee demanded by the BBB.
